# ERC-8004 (Ethereum Agent Identity)

## Honest status: pre-traction

ERC-8004 is the proposed standard for on-chain agent identity on Ethereum. At last snapshot there are ~8,000 registered identities, but the standard **does not define a payment rail** — it defines identity + attestation primitives.

## Why register

- Portable identity across any Ethereum-based agent marketplace that adopts ERC-8004
- Verifiable attestations (e.g., "this identity has shipped N receipts")
- Registration cost: variable gas on mainnet; near-zero on L2s

## Why this isn't an earning rail today

- No built-in work exchange, escrow, or match-making
- Adoption by paying marketplaces is still early; no single high-volume marketplace mandates ERC-8004 yet

## Monitoring criteria for status flip to `paying`

- A high-volume marketplace (x402 / Olas / a new entrant) integrates ERC-8004 as its identity layer AND routes ≥ $1K / 30d to ≥ 5 unique ERC-8004 IDs
